Robert Morris Lacrosse Announces 2011 Schedule

Moon Township, Pa. - November 5, 2010 The Robert Morris University men's lacrosse team will play a 14-game regular-season schedule under seventh-year head coach Bear Davis in 2011. The Colonials will be competing for the first-ever Northeast Conference (NEC) championship in men's lacrosse as 2011 represents the NEC's first full season as a men's lacrosse league.

"We're looking forward to the season," Davis said. "We feel like we have a lot of pieces to the puzzle to be successful. With this schedule, our biggest rival will be ourselves. The only thing that we can control is our effort, not the outcomes of games."

Robert Morris will have no time to ease into the season as the Colonials will travel south to take on national power North Carolina in their season opener, Saturday, Feb. 12. The four-time national champion Tar Heels will provide RMU with a challenging opening foe as they finished the 2010 season ranked third in the nation in winning percentage and have qualified for four consecutive NCAA Tournaments. It will be the third straight season the Colonials have met UNC as RMU nearly pulled an upset of the third-ranked Tar Heels last April, falling by a slim 17-14 margin.

A week after their season opener, Feb. 19, the Colonials will open the home portion of their slate as they welcome Hobart, a four-time NCAA participant, to Joe Walton Stadium. It will be the first meeting between the Statesmen and Colonials since RMU's inaugural 2005 season. RMU will play its second home affair the following weekend, Feb. 26, when it plays host to Manhattan. It will be the fourth consecutive season the squads have met, and if history is any indication, it should be a barnburner. Two of the three games have been decided by one goal, including one that went to overtime, while the only outlier was just a three-goal game. RMU has taken each of the last two meetings from the Jaspers.

Robert Morris will open play in the month of March with the first of two three-game road trips in 2011. RMU will play its first weekday game of the season, Tuesday, March 1, when it heads to New York to take on Colgate. The Raiders, who reached the 2008 NCAA Tournament, will be facing off with the Colonials for the first time.

Robert Morris will continue its road swing with its second-ever trip to the state of Florida-the Colonials will meet Jacksonville Wednesday, March 9. The game figures to be another high-scoring affair after RMU pulled out an 18-17 thriller in the teams' first meeting last season. The Dolphins finished eighth nationally in scoring offense while RMU led the nation in goals per game in 2010.

The Colonials will conclude the road trip with their first-ever trip to the state of Michigan. Robert Morris will take on Detroit, March 13, for the third consecutive season after RMU took down the Titans in each of the teams' first two meetings.

After 20 days away from home, Robert Morris will host two opponents in four days at different venues. Robert Morris will face a familiar foe March 19 when it hosts Bellarmine. It will be the sixth meeting between the squads as the Colonials and Knights have split the past two matchups. Less than a week later, Robert Morris will take on Bucknell, March 22, in a rare night contest for the Colonials. The game will be played at nearby Mt. Lebanon High School in Pittsburgh. It will be the first meeting between the two Keystone State foes, and the Bison should prove a tough test for RMU's high-octane offense as Bucknell ranked third in the nation in scoring defense in 2010.
