Centenary Lacrosse Releases Schedule for 2011

SHREVEPORT - The Centenary lacrosse team and third-year head coach Michael Brand announced its 2011 schedule. The Gents are scheduled to play 11 games, five at home and six on the road.

"Our schedule is the most competitive we have ever had and is mixed well with Lone Star Alliance, MCLA Division 2 out of conference, an MCLA division 1, and for the first time ever, two NCAA division 3 teams. The proximity of our away games does not hinder our players academic goals, which was the most important part of our scheduling process," said Brand.

Centenary will open the season on Friday, January 28th with Great Rivers Lacrosse Conference member Harding University from Searcy Arkansas under the lights at 7:00 pm on Mayo Field. The Gents will also face Tulane University two days later on the 31st at 11am also on Mayo Field.

The next weekend on Saturday February 5th, the Gents do something the have never done before as they take on NCAA Division 3 varsity Millsaps College in Jackson Mississippi. That day will also consist of the Caddo Magnet High School JV and Varsity teams taking on St. Pauls of Covington LA and a demonstration by the Choctaw Native American Tribe of Mississippi.

The University of Dallas, another first year NCAA program, is the second varsity team the Gents will be taking on.

"This is a giant step for our team. Most club programs do not have the opportunity to take on varsity teams. It can instantly legitimize our program to compete and even beat these teams. Both programs coaches are colleagues of mine and worked the 2010 Centenary summer lacrosse camp," said Brand.

The other non LSA D2 game will be against the Owls of Rice University in Houston on February 13th, also preceeded by a Caddo Magnet high school varsity match versus Pearland TX.

Besides the afformentioned game against Tulane, the Gents host Austin College, St. Edwards, and UT-San Antonio on Mayo field for their home conference schedule. They also travel to conference foes, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin State and first year LSA program Louisiana Lafayette.

"Being the president of the conference I have have overseen the addition of three teams and the reorganization of five others all for the better. Our conference has improved exponentially and for us to make it back to the conference finals will be even more challenging. With the experience gained by our players last year and the additions we have made, I am very confident about the spring. We had a great fall and we hope it carries over into 2011," said Brand.

Centenary welcomes back 13 returning letterwinners, including first-team All-LSA recipients Colton Cowley, Rob Grand, and Alex Tan from a year ago. Also back are second-teamers Michael Hiller, Daniel Ewing and third-teamers Harry Chiang and Noel Veneracion.

Brand and assistant coach Adam Mastrodomenico welcome 10 new faces to the squad.
