Harvard Releases Men's Lacrosse Schedule for 2011

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –The Harvard men's lacrosse team, which appears 16th in the LaxNews preseason poll, will play eight home games and face three teams which reached last year's NCAA tournament during the upcoming 2011 season.

Under Chris Wojcik '96, who is entering his first season as The Frisbie Family Head Coach for Harvard Men's Lacrosse, the Crimson will face 2010 NCAA postseason participant Cornell at home, as well as Hofsta and Princeton, who both appeared in last season's national tournament, on the road. Harvard, which finished 6-6 last season, will look to grab a spot in the Ivy League Tournament, which will be held at the home field of the regular-season champion May 6-8. The winner of the tournament will receive the Ancient Eight's automatic berth to the NCAA championship.

"Our program is excited about the upcoming season, and the opportunity to play a challenging schedule," Wojcik said. "Our goal is to play strong out of conference opponents as we prepare for the Ivy League portion of our schedule. The Ivy League is as competitive as ever, and we are looking forward to the 2011 season."

The Crimson will open its 2011 slate by hosting Canisius for the second straight season Feb. 26. The Crimson will then visit Hofstra March 5, followed by three straight home contests against Georgetown March 8, Bellarmine March 11 and Holy Cross March 15. All four of Harvard's early season home games will be held at the Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium.

On March 19, Harvard will open up Ivy League play by visiting Brown, and one week later, the Crimson will have another conference road test, this time at Dartmouth March 26. Following a midweek home game against Massachusetts at Harvard Stadium March 29, the Crimson will face Albany on the road April 2. Harvard will welcome Cornell to Cambridge for the first time since 2006 on April 9, and will close out the non-conference portion of its schedule at Quinnipiac April 12.

In the final three games of the regular season, the Crimson will face Penn at Harvard Stadium April 16, head to Princeton, N.J., for a matchup with the Tigers April 23, and host archrival Yale on Senior Day at Harvard Stadium April 30.

Harvard will also serve as host of two games of the NCAA quarterfinals at Gillette Stadium May 22, 2011.
