Monmouth Announces Lacrosse Schedule for 2011

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. Monmouth women's lacrosse head coach Denise Wescott has released the 2011 women's lacrosse schedule, which begins in February with three home contests.

"I think the non-league schedule will hopefully help our conference move up in RPI and really prepare us to face our NEC opponents," said head coach Denise Wescott. "The schedule gives us a variety of regions we will play in along with top-20 competition. We will also get to play in many conferences, including the Atlantic 10, Big EAST, MAAC, Patriot League and Ivy League. We will use our non-conference games to learn how to climb to the top and go into our conference games ready for battle."

The Hawks, which ended the 2010 campaign with an even 9-9 record on the season, will play this year's opener at home against Fairfield on Sunday, Feb. 19. MU's next two games will be against Columbia University on Saturday, Feb. 26 and Lafayette on Wednesday, March 2 on Kessler Field.

On Sunday, March 6 Monmouth begins its road slate when they travel to Lynchburg, Va. to battle Liberty University at one. The next stop on the road will be to New York to battle Binghamton on March 11.

The team will return home against St. Joseph's University on Sunday, March 13 before they travel to Philadelphia to play non-conference rival LaSalle University at 7 p.m. Last year the Hawks lost to the Explorers in a quadruple overtime battle, 13-12.

"We have to do more as a program and our players need to do more to get to the top of the NEC again," said Wescott. "I think this schedule is a tough schedule and it will help us prepare to achieve our goals."

On Friday, March 25 the Hawks will open up conference play travelling to New Britain, Connecticut to face CCSU at 4 p.m. They will then take a trip to Smithfield, Rhode Island on Sunday, March 27 to face NEC newcomer Bryant University.

Their next two home conference games will be against Wagner and Long Island during the weekend of April 1 and 3, before they face off in a home match against nonconference foe Rutgers at 3 p.m. The interstate battle will take place on Kessler Field on Tuesday, April 5.

The Hawks' last three away games take place in Maryland, New York, and Pennsylvania as they face NEC teams, Mount St. Mary's, St. Francis, and Robert Morris, on April 8, 15, and 17.

The squad will wrap up the regular season with two home conference match-ups against returning NEC Champions Sacred Heart on Thursday, April 21 and NEC runner-up Quinnipiac on Saturday, April 23.

The 2011 NEC Tournament will be held on April 29 and May 1, with the highest seed serving as the host.
