Davenport Lacrosse Gears up for the 2011 Campaign

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Head coach Bob Clarkson and his DU men's lacrosse team completed their fall season a few weeks ago and now have set their sights on another successful campaign when the regular season starts in early February.

"If the fall lacrosse season is all about understanding what you have and determining where to go from here we are headed in a good direction, said Head Coach Bob Clarkson".

Based on this, the Panthers played a variety of teams this fall that gave each player a chance to show the coaches they deserve playing time in the spring. Davenport had September scrimmage wins against Missouri Baptist and Lindenwood down in St. Louis. This was followed with a mid-October weeknight game against cross town rival Aquinas. Davenport finished the fall season with strong games against Indiana Tech and Central Michigan.

Meet the Freshmen

Davenport University Men's Lacrosse is entering its third season in the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) and fourth season overall. This is a turning point for the team because this is the first year the squad will have a senior class. The 2010-2011 team has 40 members with 13 freshmen, 10 sophomores, 9 juniors, and 8 seniors.

"With many of our players having 2 or 3 years experience, we are a much stronger and deeper team," said Clarkson. "Our freshman class has players from Wisconsin, Ohio, Ontario and of course Michigan. We are expecting offensive and defensive productivity from many of our new players."

Jack Turcotte Forest Hills Central (Grand Rapids, MI) grad who distinguished himself as an attacker for the Division II State Champions. Jack had many 5+ goal games including six goals in the state championship game. Jack, at 6'2" and 220 lbs, will be tough for the defenders to handle.

Nathaniel Adkins Canal Winchester High School (Columbus, OH) product who was the leading scorer on his team and was selected as a first team all state midfielder. Nate has a motor that does not quit and is one of the hardest working guys on our team. I expect great things out of Nate over the next four years.

Kyle Stelter An all state attackman for Northview (Grand Rapids, MI). Kyle played 4 years of varsity lacrosse and led his team in scoring. Kyle is a shifty attackman and should be a contributor for the Panthers.

Ryan Dunleavy A close defender who hails from Canton High School (Plymouth, MI). Ryan is a tough kid who is a sponge on the field. Constantly trying to understand the defense and is rapidly integrating himself into the defense.

Dominic Boggiano Dom is a smooth attackmen who was a four year varsity starter for Division 1 powerhouse Forest Hills Northern/Eastern (Grand Rapids, MI). He has been awarded all state four years and scored an astonishing 350 points. Dom is strong with both hands and will be an impact player out of the gate.

Taylor Stark Taylor is a big strong left handed attackman from Heritage Christian High School (Milwaukee, WI). He represents our first lacrosse player from Wisconsin. Taylor was an all conference player who was selected as the Offensive MVP for the last three years.

Ian Nelson An offensive oriented midfielder from Columbus Western High School (Columbus, OH). Ian was selected as an all club player who is a hard working midfielder. He plays hard and does not quit, always giving 100%.

Alexis Buque A Canadian product that will compete for the starting goalie position. Alexis went to Leonard J. Austin High School (Whitby, Ontario). He played field lacrosse for the Oshawa Blue Night and box lacrosse for the Whitby Warriors (Jr A). Alexis has incredibly quick hands and is fearless in the net.
