BYU Lacrosse Announces 2011 Spring Schedule

Provo, UT BYU men's lacrosse head coach Matt Schneck announced the schedule for the upcoming 2011 spring season Friday in Provo. The schedule is highlighted by both challenging home and away games.

"We are extremely excited about our 2011 schedule", said Schneck. "This will be one of the toughest schedules in BYU Lacrosse history. With 6 games against teams that finished in the top 10 of last year's final season Division 1 Poll and a total of 10 games against teams that finished in the top 25 of last year's final season Division 1 Poll, we will have our work cut out for us."

The Cougars face-off first against Boise State in their home opener in an afternoon game on Feb. 5, followed by a three game road trip to California to face Loyola Marymount, University of California Berkeley, and Claremont College.

After the opening road trip the Cougars welcome Simon Fraser University on Feb. 26. The Clan is the only Canadian team in the MCLA. BYU then hosts Minnesota Duluth on March 4, University of Colorado March 12, and San Diego on March 15. All three games are at North University Field in Provo, UT.

The Cougars then will play seven games in three weeks including a matchup against the three-year defending MCLA champions University of Michigan at Oosterbaan Fieldhouse on March 15. The Cougars will be looking forward to the game against the Wolverines, as they knocked the Cougars out of the National Tournament last year by an 11-16 loss in the quarterfinals. The BYU lacrosse team rounds out its Michigan road trip with evening games against Michigan State on March 19 and Central Michigan on March 21.

The Cougars head up the road to Salt Lake City to play Division II RMLC Champions the Westminster Griffins on April 6, followed by four straight RMLC league games at home.

BYU will host New Mexico on April 9 and Wyoming on April 10. They follow up by facing the 2010 RMLC Champions Colorado State University on April 23, and end with a game against rival Utah on April 30.

I'm really excited about our home schedule," said Captain Tyler Monteath. "We have good quality teams coming to our home field and huge fan support; it's going to be an exciting year."
