Georgetown to Open 2011 Playing JU in Sunshine Classic

WASHINGTON Georgetown University head men's lacrosse coach Dave Urick announced today that the Hoyas will open the 2011 season visiting Jacksonville University in Florida for the inaugural Sunshine Classic.

The Sunshine Classic will be held on Sunday, Feb. 20, featuring the Hoyas and the Dolphins facing off at noon (ET) as part of a doubleheader. The second game features Notre Dame and Duke.

The Sunshine Classic will be played at Everbank Field, the home of the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars. The event will be televised on the ESPN family of networks, with the national title rematch starting at 3:00 p.m. on ESPN. JU's matchup against Georgetown will air on ESPN3 at noon. Tickets are on sale at Ticketmaster.com, with club seats starting at $34.50 and non-club seats starting at $25.50.

"We're very excited to be part of this event," Urick said. "It is another sign of the growth of our sport with this game being played in Florida and Jacksonville the first Division I program in the state. It will be a great opportunity for our student-athletes and we're really looking forward to being part of it."

Led by former Georgetown assistant coach Matt Kerwick, the Dolphins posted a 6-7 record in their first season of play, including a win over then-No. 18 Denver at home.

The Hoyas finished the 2010 season with a 9-5 overall record and in second place in the BIG EAST with a 5-1 record in league play, the only loss coming to No. 2-ranked Syracuse. Georgetown was ranked No. 10 in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse poll and No. 10 in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) poll.
