GC's Cantele Tabbed FieldTurf DIII Coach of the Year

CALHOUN, Ga. Gettysburg College's Carol Cantele '83 has been named the 2010 FieldTurf NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Coach of the Year according to a release by the organization on Dec. 20.

Cantele was one of six coaches honored in the 5th edition of the FieldTurf lacrosse awards. FieldTurf is one of the leaders in artificial athletic surfaces and has been selecting a men's and women's Coach of the Year from each level of the NCAA since 2006. Final winners are selected based on tabulated votes from designated panel members and FieldTurf executives.

Cantele, who was also named FieldTurf Coach of the Year in 2006, earned the DIII award after leading Gettysburg to an 18-4 overall record in 2010, including a perfect 9-0 mark in the Centennial Conference. The Bullets advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the ninth consecutive season and appeared in the national semifinals for the fourth time in five seasons.

In 18 seasons at the helm of Gettysburg's program, Cantele has racked up an impressive record of 248 wins against just 84 losses (.747 win percentage). She has led the Bullets to six conference titles and 10 NCAA appearances. Cantele is one of the winningest active coaches in collegiate women's lacrosse with a career record of 272-107 (.718) in 22 seasons.

Gettysburg enters the 2011 season ranked fifth in the Lacrosse Magazine national preseason poll. The Bullets open the year against the University of Mary Washington on Feb. 24 at 4:00 p.m. on the friendly turf of Clark Field.
