Northeast-10 Conference Preseason Poll

South Easton, Mass. Adelphi University's women's lacrosse team was picked to defend their conference title by the conference's head coaches it was announced today. The defending national champion Panthers received nine of the thirteen first place votes, and 140 points overall.

Adelphi ran the table in conference play (11-0) a year ago en route to their second consecutive national championship. The Panthers are picked to finish 2011 right where they left off, as they are picked atop the national pre-season rankings, according to Lacrosse Magazine.

Adelphi's offensive attack will be led by defending Conference Player of the Year, Claire Petersen, who led the country in points (128) and assists (81) a year ago.

Following Adelphi in the coaches' poll is Le Moyne College. The Dolphins join the NE-10 in the sport in 2011 and are expected to make an immediate impact as they were picked to finish second with 130 points. Le Moyne received three first place votes.

Stonehill College checks in third in the preseason coaches' poll with 119 points. The Skyhawks finished second in conference play a year ago (13-4, 10-1 NE-10), and suffered three of their four losses against the eventual national champion Panthers.

Merrimack College (99 points), the University of New Haven (96), Bentley University (94), and Southern New Hampshire University (89) finished fourth through eighth respectively in the rankings, with only ten total points separating them. Merrimack also received one first place vote among the conference's thirteen head coaches.

Franklin Pierce University (62), American International College (54), Saint Anselm College (52), Saint Michael's College (31), Assumption College (28) and Southern Connecticut State University (14) round out the preseason poll.

Interestingly, Assumption, Saint Anselm, and Saint Michael's will all be led by first year head coaches during the 2011 campaign.
