Northeast Conference 2011 Preseason Poll

All but one starter returns for sixth year head coach Rachel Tringali, whose Central Connecticut State (5-9, 1-8 NEC) team could be one of the surprises in the league this season. With nearly 94 percent of its scoring offense in tact, the Blue Devils possesses a nice blend of youth and experience. Sophomore attacker Betsy Vendel (Sandy Hook, CT/Newtown) became the first CCSU player to collect a major postseason award in 2010 when she was tabbed the NEC Rookie of the Year. The four-time Rookie of the Week established a single-season school record with 55 points, and led all NEC first year players in points, goals (30) and assists (25). On the year, she ranked second in the league in assists per game (1.79) and third in points per game (3.93). Classmate Mackenzy Ryan (Carmel, NY/Mahopac) was also named to the All-Rookie squad after finishing with 25 goals, 10 assists and 35 points to rank third on CCSU in each category.

The 2011 NEC Women's Lacrosse Tournament will take place at the home of the high seed on April 29 and May 1. The top four teams in the regular season standings will advance to the postseason event. The winner of the NEC Tournament will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and travel to the Patriot League champion in a play-in game, the date of which is to be determined.
