Endicott Blanks Southern Maine, 16-0
GORHAM, Maine -- Senior Cathy Sharp (Rutland, Vt.) scored six goals to lead the Endicott College Gulls to a 16-0 victory over the visiting University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference women's college lacrosse game Friday afternoon in Beverly, Mass.
The win was the second straight for the Gulls who improved to 2-1 overall. The game was the season-opener for the Huskies under first-year head coach Sue Frost.
Freshmen Sara Gunter (Kennebunk, Maine) and Alex Pearce (Underhill, Conn./Kimball Union Academy) each had three goals for Endicott.
The Gulls raced out to a 12-0 lead in the first half as Sharp tallied five times. Gunter and senior Susie Neikirk (Scotia, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville) each scored twice in the opening half.
USM sophomore goalie Katie Quartuccio (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Millbrook School) played well for the Huskies according to Frost, making 20 saves and six interceptions. Endicott junior Erin Curry (Hampstead, N.H./Gould Academy) and freshman Molly Hamel (North Yarmouth, Maine/Greely) each played a half and combined for four saves.
Southern Maine returns to action on Wednesday evening when it travels to Lewiston, Maine, to play at Bates College. Game time is 7:00 p.m. Endicott will host MIT next Wednesday afternoon at 5:00 p.m.
