Hood Crushes Waynesburg for First Victory of '11

FREDERICK, Md.--Junior Julia Banks and Caitlin Lawrence notched four goals apiece as the Hood College women's lacrosse team (1-2) rolled to a 19-2 nonconference win over the visiting Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets (0-1) Saturday afternoon at Thomas Athletic Field.

Hood outshot the Yellow Jackets, 44-13, on the afternoon and won 19 of the game's 23 draws. Banks had a hand in six Blazer goals as she registered four of her own and picked up assists on two others. Banks also won 10 draws for Hood. Lawrence matched her single-game career-high with four goals and was credited with an assist.

Kelsey Blackwell was part of six goals as well, scoring three times and dishing three assists. Jennifer Fischer collected her first hat trick while Kati Vu had three points (two goals, one assist). Amy Eyler, Abby Dyjack and Miriah Stone netted a goal apiece in the lopsided win.

Maria Shepas scored both of Waynesburg's tallies, one in each half, and Liz Hollis assisted on Shepas' second score.

Helene Butler corraled five saves in the net while Kelsey Schlieper recorded 10 saves in the losing cause for the Yellow Jackets.

Hood's next game is slated for Thursday against Ferrum at 3:00 p.m. at Thomas Athletic Field. Tuesday's game against Trinity University (D.C.), originally on the regular-season schedule, has been cancelled.
