Shenandoah Beaten by Visiting Alfred

WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Alfred University used a big run midway through Saturday's non-conference men's lacrosse game with host Shenandoah to fuel a 17-6 victory over the Hornets.

After Shenandoah (0-2) tied the game at 2-2 with goals from Gregory Love and PJ Cooper at 8:27 and 6:05 of the first, Alfred (1-0) reeled off 13 straight goals to seal the win.

SU was held scoreless for 41:09 of game time; Love finally snapped the scoreless streak with the first of two straight goals to start the fourth period.

Love's two goals started a 4-2 Shenandoah run to finish the contest, but the Saxon lead proved too great to overcome.

Marc Zoyhofski paced the victors with five goals and four assists for four points while Stefan Dakowski scored four goals.

Love had three of the Hornets six goals with Courtney Ledden and Sean Mack both adding a goal and an assist.

Alfred outshot SU 59-22, scooped up 44 of the game's 70 groundballs and dominated at the 'x', winning 20 of 25 draws.

Hornets keepers Andrew Fleischmann, Austin Clark and Brett Holmes combined to make 23 saves. Fleischmann, the starter, had 19 stops in 45:00 of action.

Shenandoah is back in action at home next weekend with a 1:00 p.m. non-conference game against Keuka (N.Y.).
