Regis Defeats Wyoming in Home Opener

DENVER - The Regis University Rangers (1-0) defeated the Wyoming Cowboys (0-2) in their first game of the 2011 season. Freshman Morgan McDonnell led the Rangers with four goals, while sophomore Ted Emery and junior T.J. Nixon each scored three goals to help the Rangers out score the Cowboys 10-6.

Despite trailing Wyoming at the end of the first quarter 1-2, Regis exploded in the second quarter to move ahead of the Cowboys 7-4 and never looked back. Nixon added two more goals in the third, furthering the Rangers lead 9-4. Wyoming managed to score two goals in the final quarter but it would not be enough to faze Regis, who solidified their win with one last goal.

"We had a bunch of guys step up their game today," Coach Dave Leach says, "Jeron Fleming was great against Wyoming's biggest offensive threats and T.J. [Nixon] with three goals, had the game of his life."

Along with the strong offensive performance by the Rangers, Senior Goalie Stuyvie Pierrepont's 13 saves and stellar defense stifled the Cowboys, as he only allowed six goals the entire game.

"We have a lot of work ahead of us this week and for the remainder of the season but after a weekend filled with our youth lacrosse clinic, coming away with a win is a great feeling." Leach says.

Next in line for the Rangers is a weekend trip to St. Louis, Missouri March 5, 6, and 7 where they will take on Washington University, St. Louis University, and Missouri Baptist University respectively.
