Rollins Rallies Late to Hand Loss to Pfeiffer

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Rollins registered eight of the last nine goals on Friday afternoon to take a 16-11 victory over Pfeiffer in non-conference action at N.E. Lefko Field. Marissa Giannerini (Baltimore, MD) led the Tars with four goals on the day, as Rollins improves to 4-1 overall. Pfeiffer suffers its second-straight loss, dipping to 3-2.

Both sides traded the first four goals of the match until the Tars' Cat Kelley (Alexandria, VA) put home an unassisted tally for a 3-2 visitors lead with 15:26 remaining in the first half. Pfeiffer's Natalie Marvin (South Berwick, ME) would later make it a 4-3 deficit for the Lady Falcons with a goal at 10:22, but a Giannerini strike and man-up goal from Sophie Townsend (Ocean City, MD) helped make it a 6-4 Rollins advantage at the break.

In the second half, Jessica Moulton (Huntingtown, MD) quickly brought Pfeiffer to within one just 29 seconds in, but a couple of quick strikes by Rollins made it 8-5 with 27:50 to play. Pfeiffer would then reel off the next five to grab a 10-8 lead. Liz Melesh (Annapolis, MD) would score on both ends of the five-point run while Alex Cook (Commack, NY), Shannon Bonnel (Mechanicsville, MD) and Marvin scored in between for the two-goal Pfeiffer lead. Cook assisted on Marvin and Melesh's tallies picking up two of her game-high five assists.

Cook would later score the Lady Falcons final goal of the day with 8:59 remaining until Rollins put home the final six to pull away for the win. Giannerini started the comeback with an unassisted goal at 8:43 while Tori Snow (Marblehead, MA) assisted on Katy Tyszko (Clermont, FL) goal just 47 seconds later. Giannerini put home her final score of the day in front of Townsend at 5:28 while Kelley finished things off with two of her three at 3:00 and 0:13.

Snow led the Tars with six groundballs on the day while Courtney Bianculli (Setauket, NY) caused a team-high three turnovers with Sarah Ann Showell (Ocean City, MD). Snow and Townsend would each corral four draws on the afternoon. For Pfeiffer, Cook, along with Amanda Smith (Hagerstown, MD) and Katherine Athens (Huntingtown, MD) each had three caused turnovers on the day while Bonnel led with six groundballs and four draw controls.

Pfeiffer returns to action on Wednesday hosting East Stroudsburg for an 11:00 a.m. spring break matchup at N.E. Lefko Field.
