Nittany Lions Struggle Against Hilbert College

March 5, 2011 Abington, PA - Penn State Abington hosted Hilbert today at Huntingdon Road Fields for a non-conference game. The Nittany Lions lost to the Hawks by a score of 6-19 in the first meeting for both teams and the first game in school history for Hilbert College. Penn State Abington fell to 0-4 overall while Hilbert College opened up their season 1-0.

Hilbert College came out on fire as they scored the first four goals of the game. Penn State Abington's sophomore Chris Bracht (Churchville, PA/Council Rock South) responded by scoring two goals with one of them assisted by sophomore Justin O'Brien (Philadelphia, PA/Northeast Catholic) to make it 4-2 in favor of Hilbert College. The Hawks scored with 11 seconds to go in the first to take a 5-2 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

The Nittany Lions were outscored in the second quarter 7-1 with Penn State Abington's only goal coming from O'Brien at the 11:10 mark. Abington saw quickly themselves down 12-3 as they went into halftime.

Penn State Abington was shut-out in the 3rd quarter when Hilbert College scored 4 unanswered goals to take a commanding 16-3 lead.

The Nittany Lions attacked the net more in the fourth quarter as they out-shot the Hawks 11-8 which resulted in 3 additional goals for Penn State Abington. Jeff Tepel (Huntingdon Valley, PA), O'Brien and freshman Daniel Leone (Abington, PA/Bishop McDevitt) each had unassisted goals but unfortunately it wasn't enough as Hilbert College scored three additional goals in the fourth to take the 19-6 victory.

In the net for Penn State Abington was freshman Trevor Jones (Apoka, FL/Apoka) who had 4 saves on the day.

Leading the way for the Nittany Lions was O'Brien who had 2 goals, 1 assist, 7 shots and 6 groundballs. Bracht added 2 goals, 3 shots and 3 groundballs.

The men's lacrosse team returns to action on Wednesday, March 9 when they travel to Immaculata, PA for a non-conference game against Immaculata University.. The game is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
