Colley, Garcia Lead Guilford Over Berry
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshmen Becca Colley (Wells, Maine/Wells) and E'Leyna Garcia (Plantation, Fla./Pine Crest Prep) both scored four goals in Guilford College's 15-8 lacrosse win over visiting Berry College Saturday.
The Quakers (1-3) led throughout their first win of 2011, but the first-year Vikings (0-4) were within a goal with 10 minutes to play. Garcia's third goal opened a 9-4 Guilford advantage with 14:45 left, but Berry scored the next four goals to make it a 9-8 contest with 10:12 remaining. Kristan Dziurzynski (Groton Long Pond, Conn./Northfield-Mount Hermon (Mass.)) scored all three of her tallies in the Vikings' rally, but the Quakers preserved the win by scoring six unanswered goals in the final 6:33.
A season-high eight different Quakers scored in the match, including Sarah Bradburd (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Friends Central), who contributed two goals and four caused turnovers. Summer Frazier (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) had a goal and two assists and teammate Katie Oliver (Crofton, Md./South River (Anne Arundel CC)) chipped in with a goal, a game-high seven ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Dziurzynski, who also had an assist, led the Vikings with four points. Jenny Miller (Millersville, Md./Anne Arundel CC) added three scores and picked up a game-high four draw controls. Taylor Martin (Lawrenceville, Ga./Greater Atlanta Christian) made nine saves in goal.
The Quakers head to Sewanee, Tenn., for spring break matches with Kenyon College (3/11) and the University of the South (3/12).
