Queens Scores Final Three to Down Catawba
CHARLOTTE, NC -- Queens scored the final three goals to claim a 10-7 win over visiting Catawba in men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at the Queens Sports Complex. The Royals improve to 3-1, while the Catawba Indians, ranked 11th, fall to 3-1.
Freddie Turcio (Guilford, CT/Guilford HS) pulled the Indians even in the final quarter with 10:41 left, but the Royals retook the lead at the 8:26 mark and kept Catawba off the board the rest of the way. Queens held a slight 31-26 edge in shots during the tight battle and held a 35-21 advantage in ground balls.
Catawba started quickly behind three first-quarter goals from Marty Tuohy (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth HS). The Tribe led 5-2 at the end of the frame. Queens scored the lone two goals of the second quarter and added two more in the third to go up 6-5 at the 5:08 mark on a tally by David Weise. Cory Losselyong (Lewisville, NC/W. Forsyth HS) tied the game for Catawba by the end of the quarter, but the Royals scored early in the fourth to go on top 7-6.
Tuohy finished with three goals for Catawba. Braden Artem (Acton, Ontario, CANADA/Christ the King) had a pair of goals. Jimmy Baker had three goals for Queens, while Brian Rose added two. Brandon Macknew recorded 11 saves in goal for Queens. Colin McClimans (Washington, DC/Maret School) got the nod for Catawba and made eight stops.
