Connecticut College Downs Wellesley in Opener

WELLESLEY, Mass. –- Freshman midfielder Paige Pascarelli tallied five goals and one assist, propelling Connecticut College (1-0) to a 15-9 victory over Wellesley College (0-1) in the season opener for both clubs Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Sarah Miner dished out seven assists and added three scores en route to a 10 point performance for the Camels. Senior goalie Alix Werner finished with 14 saves for CC, who will play Oswego State Monday night in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Sophomore midfielder Lindsey Coit chipped in with four goals for the Camels. Kelsey Sullivan dished out two assists and Maggie Driscoll corralled eight ground balls for the winning side.

The Camels and Blue were even at four with 12:27 to play in the half. But the visitors ended the half on a 6-2 run, keyed by the offensive play of Pascarelli and Miner. CC carried a 10-6 lead into the break.

The Camels kept the pressure on in the second stanza, adding three more goals to build their largest lead, 13-6. Alix Werner and the defense took care of the rest. Werner had eight saves in the second half, thwarting off multiple scoring chances for the Blue. The Camels were able to comfortably hold on for the 15-9 victory.

Katie Mosely led the hosts with three goals. Amber Evans and Abby Baird contributed two goals apiece for the Blue. Rookie net-minder Kristin Jaronczyk had nine saves for the hosts.
