Chico State Has Big Weekend in Southern California

LOS ANGELES, CA (March 7, 2011) - The Wildcats of California State University, Chico enjoyed a road trip that did NOT have them playing in snow! Sunny skies and a game-time temperature near 80 degrees welcomed the young squad to Los Angeles, where they took on the Trojans of the University of Southern California.

A football recruiting day had the USC campus swarming with hopeful athletes and their families, and no doubt, there are some great athletic traditions hovering around USC. But that did not help the Trojan lacrosse team hold off the dominating attack of Chico State. The 'Cats pounded out a decisive 17-8 win.

The next day, trading gritty south-downtown for sylvan Westwood, Chico State took on the Bruins of the University of California, Los Angeles. Chico's faceoff ace Ari Wangerin delivered a strong advantage in possessions, but the teams stayed locked in a tough defensive struggle for most of the game.

The 'Cats kept the pressure on UCLA, and maintained their composure as the game got a little extra-physical in the closing minutes. A hard-fought 7-3 victory moved fast-improving Chico State to 3-2 on the season.
