Bulldogs Rally to Defeat Sewanee in Shootout

The University of Redlands wrapped up its three-game Spring Break trip with a wild and wet win against the Tigers of Sewanee (TN) by a score of 25-20. The Bulldogs overcame a five-goal deficit by rattling off 13 unanswered scores to take a commanding 22-14 lead with nearly 18 minutes left in the game.

After leading 2-0, Redlands gave up five goals while scoring just one through the 16-minute mark, resulting in a two-score deficit.

Despite senior midfielder Christy Smith's (St. Louis Park, MN) three-goal, first-half performance, the Bulldogs trailed 10-14 at the break.

However, Redlands came alive in the second period, dominating the game with 13 consecutive goals to tie it up and eventually lead by eight. During this stretch, seven different Bulldogs found the back of the net, highlighted by sophomore midfielder Katie Colasurdo's (Eugene, OR) hat trick.

Although the Tigers made a final push with six goals to the Bulldogs' three in the last 15 minutes, Redlands stayed on top for the 25-20 victory.

While coming off the bench, Smith finished with a team-leading five goals to go along with two ground balls and one draw control.

Sophomore attack player Aimee Dewan (Alamo, CA) notched four goals, while junior midfielder Megan Prickett (Poway, CA) recorded a hat trick.

Colasurdo and freshman Jacky Craycraft (Lake Forest, CA) each added six draw controls and four ground balls to their three-score showings.

Junior goalkeeper Ana Martinez (Pleasanton, CA) patrolled the Redlands net and made seven saves in the win.

Redlands (4-0) returns home to Farquhar Field on March 11 for a non-conference bout with Emerson College (MA) at 7:00 p.m.
