Queens Scores First 12, Cruises by Dominican

FLUSHING, N.Y. Sophomores Heather Rosen and Kayleen Kelty netted five goals apiece Wednesday afternoon, and Queens College (3-1) scored the final 12 goals of the contest over a 37:14 span, en route to a 22-5 victory over visiting Dominican College (0-1).

Rosen (game-high six draw controls) led all scorers with seven points, while Kelty (2 gb) and Meghan Monahan (g, 5 a, 2 dc) notched six points apiece for the home-standing Knights. Melissa Montreuil (4 g, a) and Sarah Boucher (3 g, 3 gb, 3 dc) both registered hat tricks, while sophomore goalie Kahli Evans made 10 of her 15 saves in the first half to record the victory.

The Chargers, playing their first game of the year, received a three-point effort from Maggie Brocklebank (2 g, a, 3 dc), while Aubree Williams (3 gb, dc), Traci Muniz (2 pts., 2 dc) and Brianna Blank (game-high-tying 4 gb) picked up one goal apiece. Goalkeeper Amanda Caprio made 11 saves in her collegiate debut.

Blank's tally with 20:58 remaining in the first half tied the game at 4-4, before six different individuals scored for Queens to give the hosts a commanding 10-4 edge. Brocklebank converted her second goal of the afternoon at the 8:11 mark to cut the visitors' deficit to 10-5. But that is as close as the Chargers would get the rest of the day, as Montreuil, Kelty and Rosen all scored before halftime to push QC's lead to 13-5.

Queens held a dominating 8-2 advantage in draw controls in the second half, and utilized the ball possession to their advantage by shutting out Dominican in the 30-minute frame and netting nine goals of its own. Kelty scored twice in the first 7:12 of the half, while Janine Guerra fired home her first goal of the season on a free-position shot with 16:24 to go.

Head coach Kerry Hausdorf's Knights are back in action March 15, when they travel to Philadelphia for a 4:00 p.m. face-off at Holy Family University.
