No. 20 Cabrini Downs Kenyon to Win Second Straight
RADNOR, Pa. – No. 20 Cabrini captured its second straight win on Saturday afternoon, topping NCAC opponent Kenyon at Edith Robb Dixon Field. Sophomore midfielder Jeff Crosby (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional HS) posted a team-high four points with four goals for the Cavaliers in the victory.
Senior midfielder Dan Terenick (Woodlynn, Pa./Ridley HS) tallied three points with three goals. Freshman attackman Matt Biegel (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East HS) also recorded three points, netting two goals and handing out one assist.
Senior attackman Paul Skulski (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley HS) directed the Cabrini offense and totaled four points with four assists. Senior midfielder Mike Gurenlian (Springfield, Pa./Springfield Delco HS) and sophomore attackman Bobby Thorp (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee HS) each added two assists.
Junior attackman Brian Hill (Folsom, Pa./Ridley HS) paired one goal with one point. Sophomore midfielder Brandon Dunn (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga HS) and freshman midfielder JoJo Cooper (Davidsonville, Md./South River HS) each deposited their first career goals with the Blue & White.
The Cavaliers' offense generated 54 shot attempts and boasted 13 players with at least one point.
After the Lords opened the contest with the game's first goal at the 12:10 mark of the first quarter, Cabrini ran off five unanswered scores and led 5-1 with 12:59 remaining in the second period. Terenick keyed the run with two goals.
Terenick added his third goal of the afternoon with 9:03 left before halftime. The Cavaliers closed the first 30 minutes with two goals and owned an 8-3 advantage at the intermission.
Cabrini began the third stanza with five straight goals and led by 10 goals, 13-3, at the 7:11 mark. Biegel and Crosby each netted two goals during the run. Cooper tallied the Cavaliers' final marker of the game with four seconds remaining in the quarter.
The Blue & White won the groundball battle, 39-29. Cabrini also won 15 of 26 face-off attempts.
Sophomore goalkeeper Erick Zarzecki (Owings Mills, Md./Pikesville HS) made the start for the Cavaliers and played nearly 50 minutes, recording eight saves. Freshman Steve Oppenheimer (Conshohocken, Pa./Germantown Academy) came on in relief and posted two stops.
Freshman attackman Will Lowe and senior attackman Ben Trachtenberg each scored two goals for Kenyon (1-2) in the loss. Freshman midfielder Chris King dished two assists for the Lords.
Junior goalkeeper Austin Anusbigian totaled 21 saves for Kenyon.
Cabrini (2-2) will play its first game of the 2011 season on the road on Wednesday, March 16 at No. 16 Gettysburg College. The opening face-off against the Bullets is set for 3:00 p.m.
