Redlands Takes Down the Loggers of Puget Sound

University of Redlands dominated the visiting Loggers of the University of Puget Sound (WA) earlier today by a score of 21-6. The Bulldogs are off to the best start in program history, winning their first six contests to kick off the 2011 campaign.

Redlands opened Tuesday's game with a 7-0 run before Puget Sound collected its first netter at the 15:04 mark. Out-shooting the Loggers 30-3 in the first half, the Maroon and Gray held a 14-2 lead at the break.

The Bulldogs closed out the match by posting seven more scores in the second stanza to register their fourth 20-goal performance of the season.

Leading the way for Redlands, sophomore midfielder Crystal Painter (Lake George, NY) tallied a game-high five points on three netters and two assists.

Senior midfielder Christy Smith (St. Louis Park, MN) found the back of the net on four occasions to lead all players.

Three other Bulldogs followed suit with hat tricks of their own, including the sophomore duo of attacker Aimee Dewan (Alamo, CA) and midfielder Katie Colasurdo (Eugene, OR), along with freshman midfielder KK McCaslin (Portland, OR).

Colasurdo, Smith and junior midfielder Megan Prickett (Poway, CA) each picked up four draw controls, accounting for 60% of the Bulldogs' total.

Between the pipes, junior goalkeeper Ana Martinez (Pleasanton, CA) earned the victory after 30 minutes of work. Freshman goalkeeper Erica Schulteis (Carlsbad, CA) preserved the win by notching three saves in the second half.

The Bulldogs (6-0) compete again on Thursday when they take on the Golden Bears of Western New England College (MA) at 7:00 p.m. In addition, Redlands is hosting its inaugural "ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) Awareness Night" in an effort to educate fans about ALS (more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease) while honoring a late Bulldog parent who recently passed away from this disease.
