Guilford Can't Keep Pace with Plattsburgh State

GREENSBORO, N.C. Joey Kramer and Kyle Norchi both scored four goals in visiting Plattsburgh State's 19-8 lacrosse win at Guilford College Wednesday. The Cardinals' (3-1) third straight victory interrupted Guilford's (5-2) three-game winning streak, it's longest since 2002.

Kramer capped a 6-0 Cardinals' run to start the game with two goals, including the first of Plattsburgh's three man-up tallies. After the Quakers' Henry Farley got Guilford on the scoreboard, Plattsburgh reeled off five of the next six goals en route to an 11-4 halftime lead. Norchi, who also had an assist, scored all of his goals in the first half.

The Quakers' smallest second-half deficit was seven goals as the Cardinals opened the third quarter on a 5-1 spurt started by Kramer's third goal of the game.

Plattsburgh's Pete Morgan contributed three goals and two assists and Tim Lawrence finished with two goals and three assists. Nine different Cardinals dent the twine Wednesday and Plattsburgh enjoyed a 53-32 edge in shots. Goalie Danny Caufield allowed five goals in the game's first 37:29 and finished with five of Plattsburgh's eight saves.

Chris Ashcraft's two goals late in the second quarter led Guilford's offense. The Quakers turned the ball over a season-high 33 times in the match. Mark Guillen made 13 saves in goal.

Guilford opens Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Saturday (3/19) at Randolph College at 1:30 p.m.
