Scranton Blasts Past Neumann to Win Second Straight

ASTON, Pa.-Junior attacker Kaela Mahon (Avon-by-the-Sea, N.J./Saint Rose) paced a balanced attack with four goals as The University of Scranton won its second straight game, a 19-7 victory over Neumann Wednesday evening.

The Royals, now 2-2, also received three goals and four assists from sophomore attacker Deanna Giorno (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South), three goals and an assist from first-year attacker Kerry Sullivan (Oceanport, N.J./Shore Regional), two goals and three assists from sophomore midfielder Jilliana DePaolera (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) and two goals and an assist apiece from senior defender Katie Slade (Buckingham, Pa./Central Bucks East) and senior attacker Caroline Pryor (Robbinsville, N.J./Notre Dame).

Junior midfielder Alexandra Bohen (Wayne, Pa./Upper Merion) and sophomore attacker Erica Crabtree (Spring City, Pa./Spring Ford) scored two goals apiece to lead the Knights, now 0-4.

For the second straight game, the Royals jumped out to a big lead and never looked back. DePaolera, Sullivan and Pryor jump-started a 10-0 run with a goal apiece in the opening 2:19, two of which were set up by passes from Giorno.

By the time the dust settled, Scranton enjoyed a 12-2 lead by intermission. The Royals out-shot the Knights, 21-7, in the first half and held an 8-7 margin in draw controls. For the game, the Royals held a 34-20 advantage in shots and won 16 of 28 draw controls.

Sophomore Kathleen Smart (Hatboro, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and Adriana Daley (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) each played a half in goalie for the Royals and combined for seven saves. Freshman Sam Kotowski (Wilmington, Del./A.I. Dupont) was credited with eight saves for the Knights.

The Royals will return to action this Friday, March 18, against the Red Dragons of Oneonta State University in Oneonta, New York, at 3:00 p.m.

News & Notes: The Royals have out-scored their last two opponents by a 36-14 margin ... Giorno's seven points (3 goals, 4 assists) were a career-high ... Mahon's four goals tonight brings her career total to 43 ... Scranton is now 5-0 all-time against Neumann ...
