Dominican Rally Falls Just Short vs. Assumption

Worcester, MA (3/16/11) -- Dominican rallied from a 9-3 second half deficit to score four unanswered goals to cut the Assumption lead to 9-8 with 2:17 left in the fourth period but were unable to pull out the victory, as the Greyhounds came away with the win this evening in a non-conference game.

Assumption opened up the game with a 4-0 run that spanned the first period and the first 6:05 of the second period to take a 4-0 lead. Midfielder Alex Jones (St. Albert, AB, Canada) put the ball in the top left corner of the net to scorehis sixth goal of the season off the assist from Thomas Dertinger (Nanuet, NY) to put the Chargers on the board (4-1) with 6:12 to go before halftime. The Greyhounds closed out the first half with two more goals for a 6-1 lead.

Assumption opened scoring in the third period with two goals before freshman attacker Chris Delaney (Port Coquitlam, BC, Canada) netted his sixth goal of the season off an assist from senior Jesse Peterson (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada) to make the score 8-2. Two minutes later midfielder Tyler Douglas (St. Albert, AB, Canada) fired off a goal after taking advantage of a Greyhound turnover.

An Assumption goal regained a five goal lead (9-3) with 4:49 to play in the third period, but Delaney started the first of five straight Charger goals with his second goal of the game off the assist from rookie Collin Madsen (Salt Lake City, UT). A man-up goal with 10.6 seconds left in the third period off the stick from Michael Holl (Montvale, NJ) with Dertinger recording his second assist of the game cut the lead to 9-5.

Jones scored his second goal of the game as he got a pass from junior Korin Pierce (Middleburg, VA) and put the ball in the low part of the night for his second goal of the night and to make the score 9-6 with 11:18 to play. Madsen kept the Charger rally going with his first goal of the game off the assist from Jones to cut the deficit to two goals (9-7) with 8:03 on the clock. Peterson pulled the Chargers within a goal with 2:17 to play off an assist from Holl.

Douglas forced a Greyhound turnover and got the ball into the Charger offensive zone with 14.8 seconds to play. After a DC timeout, a wide shot and a turnover ended the chances for Dominican as Assumption came away with the victory.

Senior goalie Brendan Bonacum (Port Jefferson Station, NY) made nine saves in the loss.

With the loss Dominican falls oto 0-4 on the season, while Assumption improves to 4-0.
