Ohio Wesleyan Storms Past Mount St. Joseph

Sophomore attacker Colin Short (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) scored twice during a 6-0 first-half run that helped Ohio Wesleyan break open a non-conference win over Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday at Selby Field, celebrating the first night men's lacrosse game in Selby Field history.

Short put the Bishops on the scoreboard just 19 seconds into the game, and freshman midfielder Spencer Schnell (Dublin/Jerome) followed with a goal just over a minute later.

The Lions got on the board with an unassisted score from Chris Uselmann, but Ohio Wesleyan responded with its 6-0 run.

Short and sophomore midfielder Drew Scharf (Redding, Conn./Barlow) closed out the first quarter with goals, and junior attacker A.J. Pellis (Edmonton, Alberta/St. Francis Xavier), Short, senior attacker Shaun Crow (Darnestown, Md./The Bullis School), and sophomore midfielder Pat Bassett (Naperville, Ill./North) added goals in a span of less than 3 minutes as the Bishops extended their lead to 8-1.

Bassett and Scharf opened the second half with goals for an 11-2 Bishop lead, and Ohio Wesleyan pulled away with a run of 4 straight scores to close the third quarter, with Crow, Bassett, senior midfielder Jack McCormick (Olympia Fields, Ill./Marian Catholic), and junior midfielder David Walter (Glen Ridge, NJ/Glen Ridge) tallying once apiece.

Short and Crow each compiled 3 goals and 3 assists for Ohio Wesleyan, while Bassett and Scharf also rang up 3 goals apiece.

Sophomore Stephen Ford (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) recorded 2 saves, senior Frank Weschler (Wilmette, Ill./Loyola Academy) made 2 saves, and freshman Trevor Olsen (Sammamish, Wash./Eastlake) stopped 3 Lion shots.

Uselmann led Mount St, Joseph with 2 goals and 2 assists. Colin McSharar had 10 saves during the first 3 quarters and Cody Noland made 4 saves during the fourth period.
