Nazareth Flies Past Sewanee in Dallas

IRVING, Texas -- Nazareth scored early and often Thursday in recording its third straight women's lacrosse victory as the Golden Flyers defeated Sewanee, Tenn., 16-4, in a non-conference game at the University of Dallas.

Nazareth boosted its overall record to 4-1 in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Sewanee is 3-4 overall.

Sophomores Alyssa Johnston (Canandaigua) and Erinn Wood (Vestal) scored five and four goals respectively to key the Nazareth offense, which generated 26 shots and picked up 32 ground balls. Wood also had two assists. Johnston leads the Golden Flyers in scoring with 20 points on 15 goals and five assists. Wood is next with 14-5--19.

Goals by Johnston, Kayleigh Pearson (Theresa, NY) and Wood propelled Nazareth to a 3-0 advantage before the game was six minutes old. After a Sewanee goal, Nazareth reeled off seven straight goals and eight of the next nine to take a commanding 11-2 lead at the half. Johnston and Wood each had three of their goals before halftime, with Michelle Cook (Waterloo), Amy McIntosh (Horseheads), Kristine Olijnyk (Webster Thomas) and Kelsey McNaboe (Corcoran/Syracuse, NY) also contributing goals.

Nazareth expanded its lead to 15-2 in the second half with Johnston scoring two more goals and Leah Cronister ( Brighton) netting her second goal in as many games.

Cook also scooped up five ground balls and had three draw controls and sophomore Megan Cregan (Brighton) also had five ground balls. Three Nazareth goalies -- Shelby Robinson (Cicero-North Syracuse), Tara Prosak (Jamesville-DeWitt) and Dani Ashton (Corcoran/Cicero, NY) -- combined to make seven saves.
