Pacific Routs Fontbonne to Remain Undefeated

FOREST GROVE - Pacific overcame a slow start to maintain their undefeated record Friday as the Boxers posted a 15-6 rout of Fontbonne in women's lacrosse action at Lincoln Park Stadium.

After scoring just one goal over the first nine minutes of the game, the Boxers (5-0) ran off a string of 10 unanswered goals over the remainder of the half. That provided all of the scoring they would need and allowed the game to move under running time for much of the second half.

Kaitlyn Harper (So., Oregon City, Ore.) led Pacific with five goals as seven different players scored on the night. Kelly Stevens (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Natalie Getchell (Sr., Beaverton, Ore.) each added two goals. Mary Alice Pierce led Fontbonne (2-3) with three goals. Emily Spaulding netted two and Carolann Brenzo scored one.

After trading goals in a slow, but very aggressive start to the contest, the Boxers went on a scoring surge that put the game well out of reach. Getchell started the 10-goal run with her goal at the 21:34 mark. Harper would score three goals in the stretch and Stevens added a pair as well. Ella VandeKamp (Jr., Alameda, Calif.) ended the run with her unassisted goal with three seconds left to give the Boxers a commanding 11-1 halftime lead.

Spaulding closed out the run by tallying for Fontbonne in the second half at the 28:44 mark. The Boxers went on to score four goals in the period, capped by Harper's fifth goal of the night with 9:58 left. The Griffins scored the final two goals of the night, with Pierce closing the night off a Spaulding assist at the 2:24 mark.

Brittany Hartmann (So., Portland, Ore.) finished with seven saves on the night for the Boxers in goal. Claire Kallio also had seven saves in the loss for the Griffins.

The Boxers outshot the Griffins 30-17 and held a 20-18 edge in ground balls, led by four by Kacey Killingbeck (Fr., Nampa, Idaho). Fontbonne held a 13-9 edge in draw controls. The Boxers caused 10 turnovers, with Sydney Vincent (Jr., Portland, Ore.) forcing four.

Pacfiic returns to the field on Sunday night as they host Head Coach Wynne Lobel's former team from Plymouth State. Game time is 6:00 p.m.
