Wheelock Ends Homestand with Loss to Thomas

BOSTON, MA - Wheelock College capped a season-opening two-game home stand by squaring off with Thomas College on Saturday at Winsor Field, falling by a 17-2 count. The Wildcats slipped to 0-2 this spring, while the Terriers won their opener.

Sophomore Despina Savvoulides (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) and freshman Jenna Ghoman (Danvers, MA/Danvers) each netted their first collegiate markers for Wheelock, while sophomore Alexandra Perry (Malden, MA/Malden) made 13 saves. Classmate Taylor Rogers (Essex, MA/Manchester Essex Regional) forced four Thomas turnovers.

Senior Kiley Jolicoeur (Oakland, ME/Messalonskee) led all players with five goals for the visitors while controlling 10 draws, and sophomore Ceara DiBiase (Westbrook, ME/Westbrook) tacked on four markers and a pair of assists. Senior Megan Denby (Copiague, NY/Copiague) finished with a hat trick and a helper, while classmate Teshia Cates (Skowhegan, ME/Skowhegan Area) made one stop in net. Thomas gave first-year head coach Lauren Bickford a victory in her first collegiate contest.

Wheelock held the Terriers to one tally during the opening 8:06 before Jolicoeur netted a natural hat trick in a span of 2:07. DiBiase scored twice in 1:14 late in the half to put the visitors up 7-0 by halftime before Savvoulides collected her goal off a free-position attempt with 24:47 remaining in regulation. Five different players scored Thomas' ensuing five markers, and Ghoman found the back of the net following an individual effort with 12:11 to go.

In a match-up of first-year programs, the Wildcats travel just down the street to Clemente Field on Wednesday to take on host Emmanuel College at 7:00 p.m.

Boston, Mass. Thomas College (1-0, 0-0 NAC) kicked off their 2011 season with a 17-2 win over Wheelock College today. The win is also the Terrriers first victory under first year coach Lauren Bickford.

The Terriers were led by senior Kiley Jolicoeur, who led all scorers with five goals. Jolicoeur was also able to control 10 draws on the day.

The Terriers also got support from sophomore Ceara DiBiase as she tacked on four goals and dished out a pair of assists. Senior Megan Denby finished with a hat trick and an assist.

Thomas goalie Teshia Cates made one stop while in the cage for the Terriers.

The Terriers will travel to face St. Joseph's (Maine) (0-0) on Thursday March 24th for a 4:45 pm match-up.
