North Central Wins First-Ever Conf. Game vs. Albion

Mar. 19, 2011 - The 2011 season opener was one for the record books for North Central College, as the Cardinals set a pair of school single-game scoring records in a 22-7 rout of Albion College at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium on Saturday.

The 22 goals establish a single-game best for the Cardinals' program, and junior Amy Frazzini scored seven times to establish a new individual single-game record. North Central's win carries added significance, as Saturday's game was the first conference game in the newly-formed Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference.

North Central scored three times in the first 44 seconds to seize control of the contest almost immediately. The Britons (1-1) broke through and cut the deficit to 4-2, but the Cardinals held their visitors scoreless for the rest of the period and piled up 10 goals to carry a 13-2 advantage into halftime.

The hosts added six straight goals in the first 11 minutes of the second half and eventually extended their lead to 21-3 before Albion scored four times down the stretch.

Jacqui Morgan, Danielle Fiala and Caroline Gully each scored four goals for the Cardinals and Mallory Bahr had a game-high four assists. Gully posted a team-high nine draw controls and Natalie Vivacqua collected seven ground balls. Goalkeeper Sarah Hon stopped four shots on goal in her first collegiate win.

The Britons' top scorer was Melissa DiRado with three goals.

North Central begins its Spring Break schedule in the Pacific Northwest on Monday, traveling to face Linfield College (Ore.) Action is set to get under way at 11:00 a.m. Pacific time.
