Ferrum Claws Past Shenandoah for Victory

WINCHESTER, Va. Visiting Ferrum College prevented Shenandoah men's lacrosse team from earning its first victory of the season with a 7-4 win Saturday afternoon on Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium.

The first-year Panthers (3-4) used a strong defensive effort to key the win over SU (0-7). FC held Shenandoah scoreless over the final 26:58 to earn its third triumph of spring.

Mac Hedrick scored the hosts final goal, scoring unassisted at 11:58 of the third to knot the contest at 4-4. Unfortunately, Ferrum scored on an Eric Dorsey goal just 17 seconds later and never trailed again.

FC opened the game 57 seconds in on a Dylan Burdick tally and after the two teams each scored twice in the second stanza, led 3-2 at the break.

Junior Gregory Love had both of the Hornets second period goals, off of assists from Sean Mack and P.J. Cooper at 12:34 and 3:20, respectively.

With that one goal lead, Ferrum gave itself some breathing room with goal directly off of the faceoff. Shenandoah, thanks to goals from Mack and Hedrick, was able to tie it at 4-4.

Ferrum outshot Shenandoah 39-17 and owned a 33-30 advantage in groundballs.

Hornets keeper Andrew Fleischmann made 14 saves.

Andrew Senft led the victors with three goals.

SU is back in action next Saturday at home against NCAA nationally ranked Cabrini. That contest is the second half of a doubleheader with the SU women and is scheduled for a 2:00 start.
