Kandola Leads Guilford Past Bridgewater

GREENSBORO, N.C. Rookie Shannon Kandola scored a career- and game-high six points to lead Guilford College past visiting Bridgewater College, 18-6, in the Quakers' Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener Saturday.

Kandola scored a career-best five goals, including two in a 4-0 Quakers' run late in the first half. The spurt came right after the Eagles (3-4, 1-1 ODAC) pulled to within 5-3 and helped Guilford (2-5, 1-0 ODAC) take a 9-4 lead at halftime.

Bridgewater's Megan Bach made it a 9-5 game with the third of her team-high four goals, but Guilford closed the game by scoring nine of the final 10 goals, three by Kandola.

Reegan Carbone, Summer Frazier and E'Leyna Garcia all scored three times in Guilford's highest scoring game since 2009. Garcia and Kandola both had four draw controls, which helped the Quakers to a decisive 17-9 edge in draws. Liza Mettler made five saves in goal and picked up six ground balls.

Bach paced the Eagles with four goals. Taylor Chamberlain tallied Bridgewater's other two goals. Goalie Caitlin Boles made six stops in goal and had four ground balls.

The Quakers return to action Wednesday (3/23) at league-rival Sweet Briar College at 4:30 p.m.
