Twelve Players Tally as Hawks Defeat Wells

ONEONTA, NY Hartwick won for the fourth time in its last five games with a 17-4 romp over Wells on Tuesday at Wright Stadium. Twelve different players registered goals, and 16 different Hawks earned at least a point in the game. 'Wick improves to 5-2 on the season with the victory. The Express falls to 2-2.

The Hawks controlled the first half, out-shooting the visitors 18-1 in the first quarter and 30-5 through the opening 30 minutes. They also held a 28-8 advantage in ground balls.

Harry Hughes (Holtsville, NY/Sachem East) scored three times in the opening half, and Dave Aitchison (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) and Bobby Cassidy (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) registered two goals apiece as the Hawks built an 11-0 lead. Wells' Dan Munsell scored one of his two goals on the day to put the Express on the board 40 second before halftime.

Max Schermerhorn (Concord, MA/Duxbury), Ian Putnam (N. Ponfret, VT/Proctor Academy), Tucker Bradley (Hingham, MA/Hingham), and Mike Vaglica (Newton, MA/Newton North) tallied for the Hawks in the third quarter to push the lead to 13. Schermerhorn and Zach Gropper (Syosset, NY/Syosset) added fourth-quarter tallies in the second half to close out the 17-4 win.

Joe Shields (Loudonville, NY/Shaker), Brian Finnegan (East Northport, NY/Northport), Matt Landry (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury), and Phil Schaefer (Holbrook, NY/Sachem North) added the other Hartwick goals.

Hughes and Aitchison combined for five assists. Landry, Daggett Morse (Needham, MA/Catholic Memorial), Pat Connolly (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh), Rob Borkowski (Farmington, CT/Watkins School), and Rob Simmonds (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY/Hastings) each added helpers in the game.

The Hawks finished the contest with advantages in shots (48-17) and ground balls (51-26). They also won 20 of 25 face-offs and were perfect on defensive clears (14 for 14).

Munsell led Wells with a pair of goals and an assist. Kylan Hallet registered the other two Express tallies.

Hartwick keeper Nick Triano (North Andover, MA/St. Johns Prep) recorded seven saves to earn the win. Wells' Kyle Brimm made 14 stops.

Twenty-six different Hawks picked up ground balls in the game led by Cassidy and Simmonds, who each earned four. Tim Antos (Marcellus, NY/Onondaga) registered four caused turnovers.

The Hawks are back at Wright Stadium on Saturday as they host unbeaten and nationally fifth ranked RIT at 1:00 p.m.
