Showell Scores Five as #10 Rollins Shuts Down Erskine

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 22, 2011) Sophomore Sarah Ann Showell scored five goals and assisted on two more as the 10th-ranked Rollins College Tars shut down Erskine College on Tuesday evening in Winter Park. Rollins advances to 7-2 on the season, while the Flying Fleet drops its sixth-straight and falls to an overall mark of 1-7.

Showell's seven point performance was closely followed by five goals from Sophie Townsend, and a four goal final from Cat Kelley. Erica Pagliarulo netted a hat trick, while Marissa Giannerini and Kelly Thayer each registered two goals. Completing the goal scoring on the day were Tori Snow and Ginevra Czech with one apiece.

The Tars dished out assists with ease as they racked up 11, led by freshman Caroline Lamere with three. Tricia Grand and Katy Tyszko each assisted on two, with Giannerini and Snow earning one apiece as the nationally ranked Tars notched a total of 34 points.

The Flying Fleet's two goals, both of which were scored in the second half, were scored by Savannah Nunn and Lauren Burdick.

Rollins goalie Elyse De Lisle saw a total of two shots throughout her time between the pipes in the first half, neither of which were on frame. Fellow freshman goalkeeper Rachael Kokomoor closed out the game in cage, allowing two goals early in second period action. Their counterpart, Kaitlyn Overley, set aside a total of 14 shots on the afternoon as she faced 44 shots and 37 shots on frame.

The Tars got the ball rolling early, with Tyszko assisting on a Showell goal just 36 seconds into the contest. Rollins rolled out to an easy 15 goal lead at the half, while holding Erskine to just two shots all period.

Rollins continued to dominate throughout the second half, outscoring Erskine 8-2 as they made easy work of their South Region opponent. The Tars concluded the game leading in shots 44-4, ground balls 26-12, draw controls 22-6, and had an easy time on clears as they found success on 10 of 11.

Rollins returns to action when they travel to Pennsylvania for a three-game stint on the road. The Tars will take on nationally-ranked Lock Haven University on April 1, with game time against the Eagles set for 3:00 p.m.
