Oswego State Defeats Elements and Cazenovia

OSWEGO, N.Y. - The offense erupted for Oswego State as the snow fell to defeat Cazenovia, 21-7, Wednesday afternoon at South Athletic Field in Oswego. Chris Porten, Andy Lever, and Brett Sarubbi tallied three goals each to lead the Lakers to their highest single-game goal total since April 10, 2004, when Oswego State defeated SUNYIT, 24-0. The win pushed the Lakers' overall record to 3-3 overall, while Cazenovia dropped to 1-3.

Oswego State's Bobby Horan played a part in the first three Laker goals as he scored 2:46 into the first quarter and assisted the next two goals. By the end of the frame, head coach Ryan Martin's squad held a 7-0 lead. The Lakers tacked on three more markers before the Wildcats' Dan Holtzman stopped the scoring string with nearly nine minutes remaining in the half. At intermission, Oswego State was ahead 13-2.

Cazenovia scored the first two goals of the third quarter, but Adam Jean posted a man-up goal with 3:31 on the scoreboard followed by goals from Sarubbi and Andy Williams just over a minute later to give the Lakers a 16-4 advantage. TJ Shaw scored with 16 seconds remaining in the stanza to make the score 16-5 heading into the final stanza.

Oswego State outscored Cazenovia, 5-2, in the fourth quarter en route to the 21-7 victory. Thirteen different Lakers posted goals, including Pat Decker, Casey Balzer, Tyler Calkin, Mike Burke, Marcus Peworchik, Chad Smith and Eric Zerrahn.

Ian O'Brien posted the win with four saves for Oswego State in goal, while Tyler Trueman, Tom Gropp, and Bryan Martin all saw time in the net. Cazenovia's Alex Iannicello and Pat Boyle combined to make seven saves.

The Lakers will travel to Utica to face the Pioneers next Wednesday for a 4:00 p.m. game.
