Battling Bishops Dispose of Oberlin

Junior attacker A.J. Pellis (Edmonton, Alberta/St. Francis Xavier), freshman midfielder Spencer Schnell (Dublin/Jerome), and sophomore attacker Colin Short (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) scored two goals apiece, as Ohio Wesleyan outscored Oberlin, 10-0, during the first half and went on to defeat the Yeomen in the NCAC opener for both teams on Wednesday at Selby Field.

Pellis put the Bishops on the scoreboard with a goal off a Short feed at the 11:19 mark of the first quarter, and after a score by sophomore midfielder Scotty Rosenthal (Boylston, Mass./Worcester Academy) less than a minute later, Schnell finished off the first-period scoring with a pair of goals.

The Bishops extended the lead during the second quarter, getting a pair of scores by Short and single goals from Pellis, senior midfielder Jack McCormick (Olympia Fields, Ill./Marian Catholic), senior attacker Shaun Crow (Darnestown, Md./The Bullis School), Pellis, and sophomore midfielder Chris Ostrowski (Pittston, Pa./Wyoming Seminary).

Pellis added a pair of man-up goals in the third quarter, and Crow scored twice in the fourth quarter to help Ohio Wesleyan pull away.

Pellis led the Bishops with 4 goals, while Crow finished with 3 goals, and Short added 2 goals and 2 assists. Sophomore midfielder Drew Scharf (Redding, Conn./Barlow) was credited with 4 assists.

Sophomore Stephen Ford (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) made 6 saves, senior Frank Weschler (Wilmette, Ill./Loyola Academy) was credited with 1 save, and freshman Trevor Olsen (Sammamish, Wash./Eastlake) stopped 2 Oberlin shots.

Rob Bond led Oberlin with 2 goals. Ted Pallis went the distance in the Yeomen crease and recorded 9 saves.
