Dominican Handles American International

Springfield, MA (3/23/11) -- Dominican picked up their first win of the 2011 season after defeating host, American International, 14-6, this evening in a non-conference game. With the win, Dominican now stands at 1-5 overall, while the Yellowjackets fall to 0-4 on the season.

Jesse Peterson (Sasktaoon, Saskatchewan, Canada), Chris Delaney (Port Coquitlam, BC, Canada), Korin Pierce (Middleburg, VA) and Collin Madsen (Salt Lake City, UT) all scored three goals a-piece in the victory, while Alex Jones (St. Albert, AB, Canada) tallied two goals.

The Chargers accounted for all of the scoring in the first half and netted the first goal of the third period as they took a commanding 7-0 lead. Peterson picked up his first goal of the game with 11:34 left in the first period on an unassisted goal.

Three minutes and twenty-two seconds later, Pierce found the net off a pass from Madsen to put DC up 2-0. Pierce returned the favor six minutes later as he assisted Madsen's first goal. Peterson netted his second goal of the period with 1:51 left in the period off of Pierce's second assist for a 4-0 lead.

Madsen scored both goals of the second period as Connor Lawlor (Neptune City, NJ) got the assist on an even goal and scored the hat trick on the unassisted man-up goal as Dominican went into halftime with a 6-0 lead.

Dominican scored the first goal of the third period as Delaney netted his ninth goal of the season off a pass from Jones for a 7-0 lead.

AIC scored back-to-back goals within 32-seconds of each other to cut the lead to 7-2. Peterson recorded his hat trick with 7:59 to play in the third period as he took a pass from Delaney to give DC an 8-2 lead. After and AIC goal, the Chargers went on a 2-0 spurt with Pierce and Jones scored goals off assists from Christopher Jones (Saugerties, NY) and Peterson to go up 10-3.

Another Yellowjacket goal made the score 10-4, but Dominican closed out the third period with back-to-back goals off the sticks of Jones and Pierce as Madsen picked up an assist off Jones's goal for a 12-4 lead.

AIC started things off in the fourth period with two consecutive goals and Dominican closed out the game with Delaney scoring his second and third goals of the game for the 14-6 victory.

Pierce and Madsen led the Chargers with five points on the night.

Senior goalie Brendan Bonacum (Port Jefferson Station, NY) made six saves in the win.
