Mustangs Gallop Past Marymount

OWINGS MILLS, Md. Four Stevenson women's lacrosse players tallied hat tricks as the Mustangs cruised to a 21-6 victory over conference opponent Marymount (Va.) on Wednesday afternoon at Caves Athletics Complex.

Senior Megan Weiss (Seton/Odenton), senior Lisa Baker (Westminster/Westminster), junior Laura Grammer (Perry Hall/Parkville) and sophomore Samantha Parker (Linganore/New Market) all recorded hat tricks while six other players scored at least one goal.

Marymount tallied first with 26:08 to play in the opening half and led 2-1 before Stevenson sophomore Olivia Baker (Perry Hall/Catholic) sparked a 12-1 run to close the first half and build a 13-3 halftime lead.

The Mustangs (6-3, 3-1 CAC), who outshot the Saints 30-4 in the first half, continued their run to start the second half, scoring six consecutive goals to take a 19-3 advantage.

As the clock continued to run, Tancy Weatherford scored the first goal for the Saints of the second half with 10:44 remaining before back-to-back goals from Parker and sophomore Meghan Najewicz (Baltimore/Perry Hall) capped the Mustang scoring.

Marymount (3-5, 0-2 CAC) scored the last two goals in the final minute to provide the margin of victory.

Junior Sarah Pincus (New Market/Linganore) netted her first career goal on a free position in the second half while junior Jenny Schroeder (Severna Park/Seton Keough) made one save.

Erika Dommes recorded 12 saves for Marymount (Va.) while Weatherford totaled three goals and Chelsea Ritter had two.

Rainy conditions led to 43 combined turnovers.

The Mustangs continue their four-game homestand on Saturday when they host Catholic for a non-conference game starting at 3:30 p.m.
