Nazareth Rolls Past Rochester to Win 4th Straight

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Freshman Amy McIntosh (Horseheads, NY) scored a career-best four goals and senior Chelsey Amidon (Marcellus, NY) scored three times for host Nazareth Thursday, as the Golden Flyers rolled to an 18-6 victory over Rochester in a non-conference game.

Nazareth won for the fourth straight time and improved to 5-1 overall. The Yellowjackets dropped to 1-4.

With the score tied 1-1 early, Nazareth strung together 12 straight goals, including three that came in a span of 32 seconds, to take a commanding advantage.

An unassisted goal by Amidon gave Nazareth the lead for good, then sophomores Megan Cregan (Brighton/Rochester, NY) and Erinn Wood (Vestal, NY) and senior Michelle Cook (Waterloo, NY) each scored in a 32-second span to extend Nazareth's lead to 5-1.

Nazareth's lead continued to swell as Amidon had all three of her goals before halftime. McIntosh scored twice, Cook added her second goal of the half and freshman Kelsey McNaboe (Corcoran HS/Syracuse, NY), sophomore Kayleigh Pearson (Indian River/Theresa, NY) and senior Kristine Olijnyk (Webster Thomas/Webster, NY) also scored.

Rochester interrupted Nazareth's scoring string when sophomore Liza Maizel (New Milton, CT) scored on a free-position shot with :08 left in the first half.

In the second half, McIntosh scored two more goals while Cregan, McNaboe and sophomore Alyssa Johnston (Canandaigua, NY) rounded out the scoring for the Golden Flyers. Maizel added her second goal of the game for the Yellowjackets and senior Charlotte Clements (Pittsford Sutherland/Pittsford, NY) added a pair of goals.

Nazareth had sizeable a sizeable advantage in shots (32-15), forced 21 turnovers, won 14 draw controls and converted 5 of 10 free-position opportunities. Sophomore Leah Cronister (Brighton/Rochester, NY) had three ground balls and two caused turnovers and Cregan won four draw controls.

Frreshman Tara Prosak (Jamesville-DeWitt/Jamesville, NY) played the first half in goal and had two saves for Nazareth. Sophomore Shelby Robinson (Cicero-North Syracuse/North Syracuse, NY) had three saves in the second half. Sophomore Frances Cooley (Cleveland Heights, OH) played all 60 minutes and had eight saves for Rochester.

Nazareth plays again Friday at second-ranked Hamilton at 4:00 p.m. The Golden Flyers open Empire 8 Conference play Tuesday at home against RIT at 4:00 p.m.
