Shenandoah Routs Methodist to Clinch Tourney Spot

WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University qualified for the post-season USA South Conference Tournament with a 16-2 victory over Methodist University Saturday morning.

The victory is the ninth straight for SU (9-2, 4-0 USA South) and means the Hornets will be no worse than the third seed at the four-team USA South Conference Tournament next month.

Shenandoah had a dominating defensive performance against the Monarchs (2-7, 2-3), breaking 14 of 20 clears and forcing 23 turnovers.

SU scored the opening 14 goals of the game; junior Jasmine Stephens finally broke the visitors scoreless streak with an unassisted goal at 20:56 of the second half.

Stephens had Methodist's other goal, scoring with 26 seconds remaining.

Ten different women scored for the victors with freshman Samantha Sisson leading all players with three goals and one assist.

Sophomore Amy Rollins and freshmen Justina Ludwig, Rebecca Durkin and Samantha Durkin added two goals each in the victory.

Overall, 12 different women had at least one point.

Sisson had all three of her goals in the first half. Her first tally, at 23:16, proved to be the game-winner.

SU outshot its visitors 30-10, won 13 of 20 draw controls and owned a 23-14 advantage in groundballs.

Shenandoah hosts St. Vincent Sunday at 2 in a non-league contest. This game will also be senior day for the Hornets.
