Carta Paces Shepherd Past Seton Hill
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Freshman attack/midfielder Shannon Carta (Davidsonville, MD/South River) scored six goals and assisted on another to lead Shepherd University to a 14-10 win over Seton Hill in women's lacrosse action on Saturday.
Freshman attack Christina Ferrara (California, MD/Leonardtown) added three goals and a pair of assists, while sophomore attack Nicole Ruane (Sykesville, MD/Century) tallied two goals and two assists for the Rams.
Sophomore attack/midfielder Krista Tippett (Leonardtown, MD/Leonardtown) had a pair of goals and freshman attack/midfielder Taylor Smith (Lutherville, MD/Mercy) added a goal.
Morgan Cain had four goals and an assist, while Ashley White added two goals and two assists to lead the Griffins.
Freshman Emily Melanson (Davidsonville, MD/South River) had superb performance in goal for the Rams with 14 saves. Nadine Wallace had six saves for the Griffins.
Seton Hill had a 31-23 advantage in shots while Shepherd had a 29-26 edge in ground balls. The Rams won 14 of 26 draw controls.
Carta had four first half goals to help the Rams take a 6-4 lead into intermission.
Shepherd improves to 5-3, while Seton Hill drops to 2-4. The Rams return to action on Thursday when they travelto Indiana (Pa.)for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
