FREDERICK, Md.--Hood College scored a season-high 21 goals, two away from tying the school record, but it was not enough as the visiting Wesley College Wolverines outdueled the Blazers, 24-21, on senior day at Thomas Athletic Field.

The high-scoring affair featured four ties and three lead changes as both teams scored early and often. After Alyssa Prudente drew first blood with her 16th score of the season, Hood reeled off the next four scores, including a pair by sophomore Caitlin Lawrence, to go up 4-1 less than three minutes in. Hood maintained the upperhand until Wesley scored four unanswered straight goals to tie the game at 7-7 at the 10:10 mark of the first half. The Blazers and Wolverines traded goals the rest of the way and went into halftime deadlocked at 10-10.

Mia Brocco scored her first of three straight goals off the opening draw of the second period and the Wolverines would not trail again. Hood tied it up on two other occasions, once on a free-position shot by senior Kelsey Blackwell and again on an unassisted tally by sophomore Jen Civick, but Hood was unable to get over the hump and the Wolverines escaped with their first Capital Athletic Conference victory of the season.

Blackwell made her senior day game memorable with a career-high tying seven goals, bringing her within two goals of tying Brandy Noel '10 for the all-time lead.

Lawrence and Julia Banks finished with four goals apiece while Civick and first-year Megan Feldtmose both scored twice and juniors Kati Vu and Jennifer Fischer added single tallies.

Brocco found the back of the net eight times to pace Wesley.

Senior Abby Dyjack forced four turnovers and controlled four draws on the day, while classmate Patsy Davis also caused one turnover.

Hood returns to action Tuesday hosting CAC rival Salisbury University at 4:00 p.m.
