Lycoming Can't Mount Offense vs. Widener

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Sophomore Stephen Romano (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) scored with a twisting shot in the first quarter for Lycoming College , but preseason Middle Atlantic Conference favorite Widener responded with three goals in each of the last three quarters to take a 9-1 win from the Warriors in conference action at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon, March 26.

Romano scored with 6:44 left in the first quarter, while the Warriors' defense held Widener (3-2 overall, 1-0 MAC) to just seven shots in the period. In the second quarter, though, a pair of penalties led to man-up goals for the Pride, and JJ Hoeffler added his second goal before the half to help the Pride take a 3-1 lead.

In the second half, Josh Fox scored three times to lead the Pride, as they scored six unanswered goals to close out the win.

Romano led the Warriors (1-5 overall, 0-1 MAC) with the goal and seven groundballs while senior J.B. Campanella (Lansdale, Pa./LaSalle) added six groundballs and three caused turnovers. Junior Tim Clemente (West Sayville, N.Y./Sayville), in his first game back after an injury sidelined him since late February, posted six groundballs and he won 75 percent of his faceoffs.

In net, senior Alan Antinarelli (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas) posted 15 saves for the Warriors and Widener's Bobby Schluter picked up the win by allowing one goal and making eight saves in the first half for Widener. Mac Nestler posted five saves in the second half.

Fox led the Pride with three goals and an assist and Hoeffler added two goals while Johnny Casey notched two assists. Hoeffler, Charlie Bythewa, Nick Politarhos and Matt Parrott each posted five groundballs for the Pride, while Parrott caused five turnovers and Politarhos added three caused turnovers.

The Warriors get back on the field on Wednesday, March 30, when they head to King's (Pa.) for a 4:00 p.m. match.
