Jacobs-Ferderbar Leads Nazareth Past St. Lawrence

CARTHAGE, N.Y. -- Senior Joe Jacobs-Ferderbar (Orchard Park, NY) scored three goals and added an assist and reached the 100-goal milestone for his career Saturday as Nazareth defeated St. Lawrence, 9-4, in a non-conference game played at Carthage High School.

Jacobs-Ferderbar scored all three of his goals in the first half as Nazareth built a 5-4 lead. He leads the Golden Flyers in scoring with 27 points on 18 goals and nine assists and is the 11th Nazareth player to reach 100 career goals and the first since Ryan Hotaling in 2007.

Nazareth, off since March 16, improved to 4-2 overall. St. Lawrence is 1-4. Nazareth dominated the game statistically with a 41-15 edge in shots and a 29-18 advantage in ground balls. The Golden Flyers also kept the Saints off the scoreboard in the second half and pulled away for the win by scoring four goals.

Jacobs-Ferderbar opened the scoring in the first quarter off as assist from junior C.J. Estes (Medfield, Mass.). After St. Lawrence tied the score early in the second quarter, Jacobs-Ferderbar scored the next two goals just 20 seconds apart to give Nazareth the lead for good. Jacobs-Ferderbar then assisted on Nazareth's next goal, by Estes, to make the score 4-1.

St. Lawrence scored twice to trim the lead to 4-3 before Nazareth's Adam Nauerth (Brockport, NY) scored off an assist by Estes to make it 5-3. St. Lawrence made it a one-goal game again on a goal just 26 seconds before halftime.

Nazareth held St. Lawrence to just six second-half shots in dominating the final 30 minutes. Nazareth also forced the Saints into 14 turnovers, including seven failed clears.

Junior attackman Nate DeLone (Rush-Henrietta) scored twice and added an assist for Nazareth in the second half as the Golden Flyers expanded their lead. Estes added a goal and his third assist of the game and senior midfielder Scott Castle (Skaneateles, NY) also scored off an assist from Brian Wright (Franklin Lakes, NJ). Estes also totaled five ground balls and senior defenseman Mitchel Frey (Terrace Park, Ohio) had four caused turnovers.

Nazareth opens its Empire 8 Conference schedule Wednesday at Alfred at 4:00 p.m.
