No. 4 Gettysburg Shoots by Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. Gettysburg College tossed in 13 of the first 14 goals as the fourth-ranked Bullets raced past host Muhlenberg College 16-5 in Centennial Conference women's lacrosse action on Saturday.

Gettysburg (5-1, 2-0 CC) was led by sophomore Lindsay Menton (Ellicott City, Md./Glenelg Country School) who netted a season-high three goals and four points. A season-high nine Bullets found the back of the net in all with sophomores Lindsey Robinson (Potomac, Md./Holton-Arms) and Haley Stauch (Trappe, Md./St. Peter & Paul) and freshmen Kelsey Markiewicz (Taconic, Conn./Berkshire School (Mass.)), Grace Ciolfi (Scituate, Mass./Notre Dame Academy), and Bailey Beardsley (Union Bridge, Md./Francis Scott Key) each recording a pair of scores.

It took some time for the visitors to get in the groove as Gettysburg missed its first five shots, but the squad eventually lit the lamp twice in a span of 19 seconds as freshman Loren Pruitt (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) tossed in a goal at 21:40 followed by fellow first-year Katie Blumenthal (Malvern, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) at 21:21.

The Bullets tacked on two more scores before Muhlenberg (4-3, 0-2 CC) managed its first tally by Danielle Rosen at 11:24. That would turn out to be the Mules' only goal in the game's first 45 minutes. Meanwhile Gettysburg dialed in with a nine-goal run as Robinson, Markiewicz, and Beardsley each scored twice.

Muhlenberg rattled off three-straight goals, including Rosen's second and third of the game, to cut the margin below double-figures (13-4), but Gettysburg ended with three of the final four goals to ice the game.

Gettysburg out-shot the hosts 34-19 and forced the Mules into 29 turnovers. The two teams split 22 draw controls.

Defensively, senior Becky Lutz (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) and junior Lexi Kelly (Ridley Park, Pa./Agnes Irwin School) each tallied two caused turnovers. Lutz also corralled a team-high five draw controls, while Kelly paced the team with five ground balls.

Junior goalie Maddie Coleman (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) earned the victory in goal for the Bullets. Coleman made six saves while allowing just one goal in 41:02.

Gettysburg returns home for its next contest, a conference match up with Dickinson College on Tuesday, March 29, at 7:00 p.m.
