Knights Fall in Overtime to Geneseo State

With three third-quarter goals, Clarkson seemed to take control of Saturday's non-conference game against visiting Geneseo State, but the Blue Knights rallied in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime and then pulled out an 8-7 come-from-behind victory at Hantz Turf Field, scoring the winning goal with 6.9 seconds left in the extra session.

Brendan Kurpis capped off the three-goal rally by scoring on shot from the left of the Clarkson goal, finishing off an assist from Ray Ryan, to give Geneseo State (3-3) the victory.

The Golden Knights, who led 7-5 after 45 minutes, never trailed in the game until Geneseo tallied the game-winner late in overtime.

Clarkson held a 2-0 lead after the opening 15 minutes, but the Blue Knights outscored the Green and Gold 4-2 in the second quarter to make it a 4-4 game at the half.

Junior Matt Cyr (Cheshire, CT) led the Golden Knights with two goals. Junior Bryan Huff (Hillsborough, NJ) and sophomore John Devine (Orchard Park, NY) both recorded one goal and one assist. Senior Mitch Collins (Baldwinsville, NY), junior Eric Gollands (Chelmsford, MA) and sophomore Matt McCabe (Syracuse, NY) tallied one goal apiece to round the Clarkson goal scorers.

Tim Burgess and Craig Lange led Geneseo State with two goals apiece.

The Blue Knights led in shots 37-30. Both teams recorded 26 groundballs. Sophomore Ryan Cole (Orchard Park, NY) made 14 saves for Clarkson. Junior defenseman Matt Davidson (Hilton, NY) picked up a game-high six groundballs for the Golden Knights.

Clarkson, at 3-3 overall, opens a three-game road trip this Wednesday, March 30 with a 4:00 p.m. non-conference contest at Plattsburgh State.
