Mount Saint Vincent Drops Skyline Opener at Kean

Union, N.J. Senior attack Mike Shea (Congers, N.Y.) scored three times and freshman net minder Kyle Kalibat (Oceanside, N.Y.) made a career best 17 saves, but Mount Saint Vincent was upended at Kean in its Skyline Conference opener by a score of 15-4. The loss snapped the Dolphins' winning streak at three games.

After falling behind 4-1 after 15 minutes, the Dolphins scored a pair of goals in the second quarter. After scoring two of the first three goals of the period, Kean answered with a pair of scores in the final four minutes to carry a 7-3 lead into halftime.

The Cougars broke the game open after the break, outscoring Mount Saint Vincent 8-1, including 6-1 in the final stanza. The Mount's only goal in the final 30 minutes on Saturday was a man down strike from Shea with 8:15 left in regulation.

Kean only allowed 19 Mount Saint Vincent shots on the afternoon and held the advantage in shots 49-19 overall. The Cougars also had a large edge in groundballs on the day at 36-19 and also won 15 of the 20 face-offs in the contest.

With his three goal output on Saturday, Shea has now scored at least three goals in the last four games for the Dolphins. Matt DeSimone (Congers, N.Y.) scored the other goal for Mount Saint Vincent and also chipped in with a pair of groundballs.

Kalibat continued his strong rookie campaign with 17 stops and also matched the team lead with three groundballs. Chris Guastamacchia (Monroe, N.Y.) joined Kalibat with three groundballs and also won all five face-offs for the Mount.

Kean featured a balance scoring attack on Saturday, showing 12 different goal scorers. Richard Cheifitz, Nick Angrisani and Dan Nesson all scored twice for the Cougars. Justin Lappen led the team with five groundballs and he also won 10 of the 15 face-offs for Kean. Lane Zierten made eight saves in net to earn the win.

Saturday's loss evens Mount Saint Vincent's record at 3-3 overall and drops it to 0-1 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will be back in action again on March 30 when they host league foe Maritime. Face-off at Tibbetts Brook Park is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
