Queens Cruises by Erskine on Senior Day

CHARLOTTE, N.C. After honoring its three seniors during halftime of the Royals' game this rainy afternoon, Queens went on to defeat Erskine 19-7. With the win, the Royals remain undefeated in Conference Carolinas women's lacrosse action at 3-0 (6-5 overall). Erskine drops to 1-9 on the season (1-2 CC).

All three seniors contributed goals in the win today. Amanda Martin led the way with four goals, nine ground balls, and three draw controls. Caitlin O'Rourke notched two goals, five ground balls, and three draw controls. Beth Janaskie tallied one goal and collected four ground balls.

The Royals dominated play on the offensive end outshooting Erskine 46-to19. Queens also possessed 30 draw controls to Erskine's eight and collected 57 total groundballs.

After going on a 3-to-0 run, Erskine notched two goals in a row to cut the Royals lead to one early in the first half. Queens responded firing off seven straight goals to end the half up10-2. Martin scored three of her goals during the Queens spurt.

Queens held on to its large lead opening the second of half of play with four consecutive goals after an early Erskine goal making the score 14-3. The Royals would stretch their lead out to as much as 12 multiple times before the final horn sounded.

Brittany Philip and Arika Zimmerman also led Queens this afternoon with four goals apiece. Philip also had an assist, five ground balls, and four draw controls. Zimmerman also notched four ground balls. Paige Fisher scooped up seven ground balls. Awarded the win in goal was Chelsea Lancashire with six saves.

Alesia Jerrells led Erskine with three goals. Lauren Burdick scored two goals and had two assists.

The Royals will be on the road for their next four games. The first stop is at conference rival Belmont Abbey on March 30th at 4:00 pm.
